A sloped backyard that you can't really use is one of the most frustrating problems a homeowner can have. The grade drop looks fine from a distance, but when you're trying to host people or just enjoy your outdoor space, it creates a real barrier. That's exactly what we were working with here - a significant elevation change that needed a proper structural solution, not just a cosmetic fix.
We built a full retaining wall system to hold that grade change in place the right way. That means engineered structure, proper drainage built in from the start, and block work that's laid to last. A wall that looks good but skips those steps is just a future problem waiting to happen. We don't build that way.
One thing we were deliberate about on this job - matching the block pattern to the existing front wall on the property. It would've been easy to just use whatever was available and call it done. Instead, we took the extra time to source the right material and lay it so the new wall feels like it belongs. The result is a cohesive look across the whole property rather than something that clearly got added later.
We also built a custom staircase into the wall so the upper level is actually accessible. Wide, solid steps that make it easy to move between the yard and the entertaining space above. Whether it's guests coming through for a gathering or just everyday use, the stairs make the whole setup functional - not just something to look at.
Hardscaping like this isn't a quick job. It takes planning, the right materials, and crews who understand how structure and aesthetics have to work together. When it's done right, it adds real usability and long-term value to a property. This one checked every box.
