This one is a serious wall. We're in the middle of building a 9-foot tall, 55-foot long outcropping-style retaining wall at a property in Grand Haven - and the scale of this job is something you really have to see up close to appreciate. The hillside next to this home needed real structural support, not just something to look nice from the street.

Here's what we were working with - a steep, unstable slope right off the driveway with loose sandy soil and no way to hold the grade long-term without a proper wall system. Before we could set a single block, the site prep work had to be done right. That meant excavating deep, clearing debris, and establishing a solid base that this wall could actually be built on. Cut corners at the foundation stage and everything above it is just a matter of time.

The blocks we're using have that natural, weathered ledge-stone look - heavy, irregular cuts that stack together in a way that reads as organic rather than manufactured. That's the whole idea behind an outcropping wall. It has the visual weight and character of natural stone but with the consistency and structural reliability of engineered block. For a wall pushing 9 feet, that combination matters a lot.

Drainage is built right into the system - you can see the filter fabric and drainage components being set behind the wall as we build up. That's not optional at this height. Managing water pressure behind a retaining wall is just as important as the wall itself. Miss that detail and even the best-looking wall will fail.

This is the kind of hardscaping work that adds real, lasting value to a property. It solves a drainage and erosion problem, creates usable space, and leaves the yard with a finished, intentional look. We handle everything from the initial grading and site prep through final wall construction - one crew, start to finish.
